The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off a stellar but disappointing season — and they’re now actively “loading up” to come back stronger next season. According to reports from the recent GM conference in Las Vegas, the team’s leadership said they will be very active in many transfer markets — from starters, relievers, to position players.
One of the organization’s clear goals is to improve its secondary pitching group. Last season, the Blue Jays’ reserve pitchers had a combined Earned Run Average (ERA) of 3.98 — 16th out of 30 teams in MLB.
They added Seranthony DomĂnguez and Louis Varland before the season deadline, but DomĂnguez is now a free agent.
Additionally, the team is keen to retain or re-sign a star player — namely Bo Bichette. Bichette is a native player who has only known one team, the Blue Jays, and he has expressed a desire to continue playing alongside longtime teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
In the 2025 season, Bichette is expected to hit .311/.357/.483 (batting/on-base/slugging ratio) — a better line than his career .294/.337/.469.
However, a big challenge for the Blue Jays is balancing keeping their core players and adding new ones. For example, if the team were to sign Bichette to a big contract — which could be as high as ~8 years, $208 million (estimated) — it would impact the pitching budget.
