Chicago — Last night at Wrigley Field, there was more than just cheering after the Chicago Cubs’ dramatic victory. Tears were shed in the stands as the wife of the late Charlie Kirk appeared with her family at the memorial service for her husband, father, and forever “Cubbie” to fans.
Charlie Kirk, a former professional baseball player, passed away suddenly last year, leaving a hole in the hearts of his family and community. He never had the chance to play for the Cubs in an official MLB game, but his love for the team is undying.
During a moment of silence on the field, Charlie’s wife choked up and shared with the crowd:
“He always said that if we had a son in the future, our son would also be a warrior, fighting for the Cubs. That was not only Charlie’s dream, but also the spiritual legacy he left for his family.”
These words moved many spectators. Many fans hugged each other and cried, many held up signs “Once a Cub, Always a Cub” as an emotional farewell.
