Los Angeles — Kiké Hernández, the Dodgers’ backroom hero on their World Series run, announced he underwent left elbow surgery after playing through an injury to help the team win the title.
In a post on Instagram, Hernández said he suffered a torn extensor plantar fascia in his elbow in May, but continued playing because he wanted to help the Dodgers win. “The desire to repeat the championship caused me to play through pain, and by the time I had surgery, the muscle had separated from the bone,” he candidly wrote.
The decision to undergo surgery means Hernández will miss the World Baseball Classic with Puerto Rico, something he cherishes.
During the 2025 season, he went on the injured list with elbow inflammation, but returned in late August to help the team.
During his previous treatment, Hernández underwent two non-surgical therapies to relieve pain and restore function: cortisone injections and PRP.

However, the injury ended up being more serious than expected, forcing him into surgery.
Despite a struggling regular season, in which he played only 93 games and had a .203 batting average, Hernández shined in the postseason with 16 hits.
His decisive double play in Game 6 of the World Series was one of his most memorable moments.
The injury was not only a physical challenge, but also a psychological test of commitment. Now, as Hernández enters the recovery phase, fans and the team are expecting a dramatic comeback — for a player who sacrificed so much for the team, the journey to recovery could be the biggest next chapter of his career.
