Aaron Rodgers Denies He's a Sandy Hook Truther

It didn’t take long for Aaron Rodgers to reach his breaking point.
After another frustrating loss that exposed glaring holes in the defense, the New York Jets quarterback didn’t mince words — and his postgame comments are making headlines across the NFL.

“We can’t keep saying ‘we’re close,’” Rodgers said bluntly. “At some point, you either play championship-level defense or you don’t. And right now, we’re not.”

Rodgers’ remarks came after the Jets surrendered nearly 450 total yards in a deflating Week 9 defeat, including several costly third-down conversions that turned potential stops into touchdowns. The 40-year-old quarterback — known for his measured but sharp words — made it clear that he expects more from the unit that was supposed to be the team’s backbone.

“This defense has all the talent in the world,” he continued. “But talent means nothing if you’re not executing, if you’re not communicating, if you’re not finishing drives.”

Inside sources told The Athletic that Rodgers’ comments “didn’t sit well” with a few defensive veterans, though others reportedly agreed with his assessment. Tension has quietly been building as the Jets’ once-dominant defense has slipped in recent weeks, ranking 22nd in scoring defense after opening the season in the top five.

Head coach Robert Saleh downplayed any internal conflict, saying Rodgers is “just holding everyone accountable.”

“He’s a competitor,” Saleh said. “He wants excellence across the board. That’s what leaders do.”

Still, the message was unmistakable: Rodgers expects more — and he’s not afraid to call it out publicly.

The timing adds even more intrigue. Rodgers has been ramping up his recovery from last year’s Achilles injury, and insiders believe he’s “closer than ever” to a return later this season. His fiery comments could be part of an effort to spark the locker room before that moment arrives.

“I’m not here to waste time,” Rodgers said. “We’ve got the pieces. But pieces don’t win games — performance does.”

Whether his words unite or divide the team remains to be seen.
But one thing’s certain — Aaron Rodgers just turned up the pressure in New York, and the spotlight is now firmly on the Jets’ defense.
