HOUSTON — On the night of June 28, 2007, Minute Maid Park shook. When Craig Biggio’s bat sailed over the Colorado Rockies’ defense, the stands erupted. It wasn’t just a hit — it was the Houston Astros legend’s 3,000th career hit, and a moment that put the entire city in history.
“I heard the crowd, looked up in the stands, and saw my wife and kids crying,” Biggio said after the game. “I knew that all the pain, all the days I went out there and my body was broken — it was all for this moment.”
Biggio will be remembered not only as a great player, but also as a rare example of loyalty in the modern era of baseball. He spent his entire 20-year career with only one team – the Houston Astros.
From catcher in his youth, to second baseman and then outfielder, Biggio was always willing to make changes for the betterment of the team. No matter what role he played, he maintained a steady performance and an incredible fighting spirit.
“He was a leader in silence,” former teammate Jeff Bagwell once said. “Biggio didn’t have to yell to lead. He just went out there, did his job, and let his actions speak for him.”

Now in his mid-50s, Biggio still lives in Houston, still regularly appearing at community events and coaching youth. To Houstonians, he’s not just a legend—but a symbol of the spirit that never leaves home.
“Not everyone is lucky enough to live and contribute to one place. I did—and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
And as the afternoon sun sets on the dome of Minute Maid Park, Craig Biggio is still present—in every hit, every shout, and in the hearts of millions of Astros fans.
