As the Boston Giants head into the winter transfer window with a clear ambition: to conquer the title, a big question is looming at Fenway Park: who will occupy the 3B corner?
After Alex Bregman’s breakout season – where he won the Gauntlet, hit big hits, and showed leadership – the team now faces the prospect of Bregman opting out.
If that happens, Boston is faced with a big choice: continue with an inexperienced internal solution, or make a big move in the free market. And the name that has emerged as their secret weapon is Eugenio Suarez – a blow that could shake up the entire AL East.

At 34, Suarez just put together a monster season with 49 home runs, 118 RBIs, and an .824 OPS – numbers that would make any GM in MLB stop and think.
Of course, his weakness is that he is weaker defensively than Bregman – that’s an undeniable fact. But Boston isn’t looking for the “perfect” guy, it’s looking for someone who moves the needle on the team’s offensive power. That’s ― like a magnifying glass for “right-handed power” in the lineup.
Expected contract: maybe 2 years, $30 million – or “around 3 years, $69 million” according to some analysts.

That’s a “reasonable” price compared to other massive long-term contracts Boston has avoided.
Boston isn’t short on internal options. Young prospect Marcelo Mayer could be pushed to 3B – but the path from “glimmer of light” to “main star” is still fraught with risk: .228 AVG in 44 MLB games, not to mention the wrist injury that has kept him out.
If Boston signs Mayer, they are entering a “rebuild process” – a season-racing lineup with the potential for decline and greater risk. But if they sign Suarez, they are choosing an immediate winning path. With Suarez, they are not just substituting players – they are declaring: “We’re back, and we want to fight.”

According to Boston Herald writer Mac Cerullo: “The only guy who can make a real difference at 3B is Suarez… he will bring the right-handed power we desperately need.”
If Boston signs Suarez, they are not just signing a contract – they are sending a message. The image of Suarez hitting a home run past the “Green Monster,” the cheers at Fenway – all will be milestones for an ambitious comeback.
They have the resources. They have the goal. And they are facing a choice: take a risk to grow, or play it safe and wait.
Will Boston pull the trigger on a $69 million deal to land Suarez and shake up the AL East? The summer trade season is underway, and the stage is set.
