In the wake of the Kansas City Chiefs’ stunning Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos, NFL legend Rob Gronkowski has come to the defense of Patrick Mahomes, blasting the criticism swirling around the two-time MVP and calling it “an injustice to football.” The Chiefs, who fell in an uncharacteristically sloppy performance, have faced intense scrutiny—but Gronk says the outrage is wildly overblown.
Mahomes, who threw multiple turnovers in the 24–18 defeat, has spent the week absorbing a wave of social-media hot takes and talk-show doubt. But Gronkowski, never shy with his opinions, fired back during a segment on Fox Sports NFL Kickoff, arguing that the blame should not fall squarely on Kansas City’s superstar quarterback.
“People forget this guy has carried the league for half a decade,” Gronkowski said. “Every quarterback has off nights. What’s happening to him is an injustice to football. You don’t tear down greatness because of one rough week. Mahomes is still the best in the game.”
Gronk went further, emphasizing that the Chiefs’ issues extend beyond Mahomes’ stat line. He pointed to missed assignments, dropped passes, and inconsistent offensive rhythm—problems that plagued Kansas City throughout the matchup.

“He’s trying to do too much,” Gronk added. “Anytime a team struggles, everyone looks at the quarterback first. But football is the ultimate team sport. If guys aren’t on the same page, even Mahomes can’t fix that. But trust me—the moment they click again, everyone will pretend they never doubted him.”
The outspoken tight end’s comments quickly went viral, sparking debates across sports forums and social media. Many fans agreed that Mahomes’ track record earns him more benefit of the doubt, while others insisted that the Chiefs’ dynasty window may finally be tightening.
Still, Gronkowski’s passionate defense resonated with those who believe the media tends to pounce on elite players the moment they show a crack in the armor. As he put it: “If Mahomes is your biggest problem, then you don’t have a real problem.”
For Kansas City, the loss to Denver was a wake-up call, but with Mahomes under center—as Gronk repeatedly stressed—the Chiefs remain dangerous. “He’s going to bounce back,” Gronk said. “And when he does, everyone criticizing him right now will go silent real fast.”
One thing is certain: if Mahomes needs a hype man, Gronk is more than ready for the job.
