During the 2025 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers dealt with several injuries to key players on both sides of the football, which eventually became too much to deal with during the NFL playoffs, resulting in the team being unable to keep up with the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
Perhaps the most significant injury in terms of the impact it had on the team was to superstar defensive end Nick Bosa, who suffered a torn ACL, resulting in only three games played by the one-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
John Lynch Provides Potential Timeline for Nick Bosa’s Return

With Bosa suffering a torn ACL early in the 2025 campaign, the prospect of him returning sooner rather than later is looking promising.
According to 49ers general manager John Lynch, Bosa returning to participate in training camp in July seems to be a likely scenario, which is obviously great news for San Francisco, via Taylor Wirth of NBC Sports Bay Area.
“Nick’s doing great,” Lynch said. “His rehab has been excellent. He did it early enough that we anticipate him being ready — I don’t know for the whole offseason — but training camp, certainly.”
There’s no question that the 49ers are a different team defensively when Bosa is healthy and on the field, so getting a promising update ahead of the 2026 NFL season is a step in the right direction for San Francisco.
John Lynch Gives Updates on Fred Warner & George Kittle

Along with Bosa recovering from a season-ending injury, fellow superstar linebacker Fred Warner is also on the mend and seems to be making a “miraculous” recovery, according to Lynch, via Wirth.
“Fred’s doing great,” Lynch shared. “You guys saw with your own eyes, him out there. Pretty miraculous, as everything Fred does. His work ethic, his mindset.”
Losing Warner and Bosa was devastating to the 49ers’ defense, but fortunately for San Francisco, both defensive stars are headed in the right direction.
As for superstar tight end George Kittle, however, the prospect of him returning to the field for the 2026 campaign might be a bit tougher, considering how long it takes to come back from the Achilles injury he suffered during the playoffs.
Even though Kittle playing in 2026 might be a stretch, Lynch is “encouraged” by what he’s seen from the veteran tight end during his recovery from Achilles surgery, as he admits that at one point in time those injuries ended NFL careers, and that’s no longer the case.
“That’s an injury that when I first entered the league, ‘Oh no, he did his Achilles.’ That was like a career-ender. Guys do pretty well with them. We’re encouraged. Won’t put a timeline on it, but I think George feels very good and we feel good about his prospects of coming back and being healthy.”
So even though Kittle will take quite a bit of time to be ready to return to the gridiron, Warner and Bosa are on track to lead the defense once again in 2026.
