The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing for the most important game of the season – Game 1 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. However, the focus is not only on their opponents but also on Shohei Ohtani – the two-way superstar who is facing a serious performance crisis.
In the NLDS series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Ohtani had just one hit in 18 plate appearances, with a batting average of just .056 and nine strikeouts. He was particularly unimpressive against Phillies left-handed pitchers, with a record of 0-12 and six strikeouts. In total, Ohtani had just two hits in 27 plate appearances during this year’s playoffs, with an OPS of just .604.
In response, manager Dave Roberts warned, “We can’t win a championship if Shohei continues to play like this. He needs to improve his ball recognition, especially with left-handed pitchers, and be more patient in the batters’ box.” Roberts emphasized that the team is counting on Ohtani’s recovery to advance further this season.
Although Ohtani has shown excellent form in the regular season with 55 home runs and a 2.87 ERA, his inconsistency in the playoffs has fans worried. If Ohtani can’t overcome his mental crisis and regain his form, the Dodgers may have a hard time winning a second consecutive championship.
With Game 1 of the NLCS taking place tonight, all eyes will be on Ohtani. Can the Japanese superstar overcome the pressure and return to his peak form, or will the Dodgers face a major test in their quest to win the World Series?
